This academic year is a special one for the ‘Sharon Family’ as it completes 50 years…50 years of educating, 50 years of growth, 50 years of excellence.
The school first opened its doors to students, staff and the community in 1967. It was a powerful beginning with Principal K.T. Philip at the helm with the community and religious leaders taking part in a dedication ceremony, a landmark in its own right in the local history of Mulund. This was way back on the 7 th of June in 1967 and today we have completed 50 glorious years…how time flies!
My predecessors, Late Mr. K.T. Philip, Late Ms. Anna Philip, Mr. K Thomas, retired HMs and teachers made the job easier by setting a high standard of excellence that we continue to appreciate and value today. The founder, Late Mr. K.T. Philip envisioned a school that would be the conscience of the community and that which would allow for all people in Mulund – civil servants, teachers, ordinary citizens of diverse background to have access to ‘English medium’ education. A school that would not only be an intellectual enclave but would also become a central part of the wider society bringing people together in the pursuit of learning English as there were very few English medium school then. And so came into being ‘Sharon’ one of the premier English medium schools in Mulund.
Sharon School which began in 1967 with 7 students and a few staff members has multiplied and grown into a large family today, the strength of the current batch stands at 1300 students and 60 staff members. Over the past five decades despite infrastructural challenges, as an institution we have truly asserted ourselves and made our mark in society with our students faring well in interschool competitions and in the std. X board exams. As a befitting reward, this year’s std X students too made us feel ecstatic and proud with our topper Ms. Sanika Rajde scoring 99.6%, Mst. Kevin Shah scoring 98% and Ms. Dhruvi Patel scoring 97.6%. 41 students out of the 116 students who gave the exam scored above 90%.
Over the years we have built an extensive community of alumni, academic partners, supporters, friends and well wishers. Many of our alumni are scattered across the globe doing exceptionally well in whatever roles they have taken up in life. This is a matter of great pride and happiness for us.
Without doubt, it is through the collective efforts and support of our outstanding faculty, staff, administration and the cooperative and trusting parent community that this school has withstood the test of time.
Dear teachers, staff, students and parents, let us once again recognise the significance of the anniversary and honour the vision of our founders as well as the steadfast commitment of those who have contributed to building this institution. Let us rededicate ourselves with pride in our achievements and solidarity of our purpose.
Let us salute the distinction of our institution and the distinctiveness of our students!
